Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao’s first film together was Queen and it turned out to be a blockbuster. Though the two had only a few scenes together, everyone loved their jodi on the big screen. So when Ekta Kapoor announced her next Mental Hai Kya with them in the lead, it was a dream come true for everyone. Later, when the posters of the film came out on social media, the curiosity around the film further increased. And while we were waiting for the film to the hit theatres on March 29, the makers have now pushed the release date to May. Read on to know why!
According to the sources close to the film, Kangana requested the makers of the film to shift the dates to May and give her a breather between her two films – Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Mental Hai Kya. The source says, “Kangana wanted to give enough space between both her films. The January released film Manikarnika has already entered the Rs 100 crore club and is still running successfully in the theatres. It has surpassed the expectations of the people and inspite of the hurdles that the film faced at several steps along the way, Kangana’s film has managed to make good numbers at the box office.” The source adds that Kangana feels that the two films should have a proper gap and should not overlap each other at the box office, hence the date of Mental Hai Kya, has now been pushed ahead. “Being a black comedy, the film should also enjoy the audience equally, and hence the makers have decided to shift the release,” shares the source. However, a final date has still not been chalked out yet.
Apart from that, the makers of Mental Hai Kya also have some patchwork to finish and so they thought it was best to delay the film for a few months. While Kangana and Rajkumar’s film will hit the screens in May, the new release date is yet to be finalised. Mental Hai Kya, which is a black comedy thriller, also features Amyra Dastur, Jimmy Shergill, Amrita Puri and Mimoh Chakraborty in pivotal roles. In fact, the film also stars Shah Rukh Khan but in an extended cameo. For more such news and updates, keep reading Cine Blitz.
