# Kalank Controversies

Initially, Kalank was supposed to be directed by Karan Johar and his late father Yash Johar was going to produce it. In fact, the pre-production work had also begun and Yashji scouted places for the shoot too. However, the film ended up getting shelved after KJo’s father passed away. Karan had mentioned how he couldn’t gather the courage to make the film and hence, he passed it on to Abhishek Varman, who nurtured it well.

The first controversy that Kalank faced was accusations of plagiarism. As soon as the teaser dropped, a Twitter user pointed out how the background score was ripped off from a popular Television series, The Flash. But composer Sanchit Balhara quashed these accusations with his post on Facebook that read, “Let me inform you, what you and some other people are referring to ‘copied’ is a basic music technique called arpeggios. When an arpeggio is played by an orchestra, it’s supposed to sound very similar to your mentioned original music of ‘Flash’. And if you consider that ‘copying’ then I would request you to start listening to composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky to find how commonly this technique is used in classical music and film scores.”

Kalank makers were also accused of copying the story of a novel and movie going by the name of What the Body Remembers. There were several uncanny resemblances. However, Varun Dhawan denied the allegations and mentioned how he hasn’t read the book. He further revealed that that Kalank is a love story with multiple layers, most of which are not in the trailer. The actor further added that if the makers were trying to copy or adapt a movie or book, they would have tried to hide it by changing the character names. Kangana Ranaut hits out at Alia Bhatt again; calls her Gully Boy performance mediocre

Kangana Ranaut had earlier launched a verbal attack on Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, calling them apolitical

Published at

The second round of verbal attack has started between Kangana Ranaut and Alia Bhatt. Reports from other publications have revealed that Kangana Ranaut is still not happy with Alia Bhatt and has launched another attack on the Raazi actress by calling her performance in Gully Boy as mediocre. Back when Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi released, Kangana was extremely disappointed by the lack of support from industry peeps and had named a few colleagues, especially Alia. She called her out publicly for skipping the special screening of her big directorial debut. Kangana, on the other hand, had extended her support by attending screenings of Alia’s films, when invited. This really touched a nerve with Kangana and she has been vocal about it. Kangana also took the cold war between them a step forward when she called out Alia’s beau, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia for not using their stardom and voicing their beliefs or opinions during the Pulwama attacks She called them apolitical.

Fast-forward to today, looks like Kangana hasn’t forgotten the earlier clash and lashed out again to a media outlet. In true Kangana-style, she exclusively told the publication that she shouldn’t be compared to Alia based on performance, attributing Alia’s Gully Boy character to Bollywood’s same-old portrayal of a fiery modern independent girl. She also stated that mediocre work shouldn’t be over-exaggerated, nor overappreciated, and star kids shouldn’t be pampered anymore.

Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy premiered at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival and received a standing ovation. Every aspect of the film, including Alia’s performance, received accolades from critics across borders and platforms. Manikarnika, on the other hand, received a mixed response from critics regarding script, screenplay and the lack of more centered and strong characters. What do you think about the latest clash between the two actresses? Are you team Kangana or team Alia? Leave your thoughts in our comments section below.
