Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra’s Kesari is one of the most exciting films of the year. After years of planning, back and forth, controversies and much more, the movie is finally complete. It’s up for release on Holi (March 21) and we can’t wait to see it, especially after looking at the promos. The teasers were fantastic, but the trailer took our breath away. Kesari‘s action sequences and plot seem engaging. Some impressive songs have also caught our attention, especially the latest one – Teri Mitti. With the release date just around the corner, we thought of compiling everything you guys need to know about the movie. And present it to you in an interesting way. So read on to know Kesari‘s review, budget, box office collection, controversy, story, cast, stills – all the important information right here.
From what we know, Kesari revolves around the Battle of Saragarhi (1897). It was the bravest battle ever fought. Why bravest? Well, because 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army fought more than 10000 Afghans. Havildar Ishar Singh was the leader of the Sikh regiment, which was marked in Kesari (saffron) colour. Symbolising valor, the regiment was protecting Fort Saragarhi, which was an important relay station as the British Empire infiltrated Afghanistan. Though the 20 soldiers under Halvidar Ishar Singh were undisciplined and the Sikh leader of the Army himself was sent to the fort as a punishment, they fought the battle with bravery. Though they all lost their lives in the epic battle, they managed to kill several Afghans and held the fort for a very long time. It is an inspiring tale, which we are sure you’ll love to watch on the big screen.
Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra play titular roles. Edward Sonnenblick, R. Bhakti Klein, Mark Bennington, Toranj Kayvon, Rimple Dhindsa play pivotal roles. Vikram Kochhar, Bhawani Muzamil, Mir Sarwar, Sonia Albizuri, Rakesh Chaturvedi Om, amongst others are also a part of Kesari.
Anurag Singh is the director of Kesari, who is assisted by AD Harshit Bhatia. The film’s story is written by Girish Kohli and Anurag Singh. And while Parvez Shaikh and Lawrence Woodward are the action directors, Ganesh Acharya and Vijay Ganguly are the choreographers. Amar Butala is the co-producer, while Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Sunir Kheterpal are the co-producers. Navmeet Singh is the line producer.
The music composers include Tanishk Bagchi, Chirrantan Bhatt, Arko, Jasbir Jassi, Gurmoh and Jasleen Royal. On the other hand, Kumaar, Manoj Muntashir and Kunwar Juneja have written the lyrics for the songs. And while the cinematography is done by Anshul Chobey, the film editing is done by Manish More. Lastly, the costume design is by Sheetal Sharma and casting By Jogi Mallang (Jogi).
While Kesari has not run into any controversy yet, there are a few things that did crop up. The first and the biggest one was Salman Khan walking away from the project. Karan Johar had announced a couple of years ago that he along with Salman and Akshay Kumar would produce this film. However, after Salman split with his manager Reshma Shetty, he walked out of this project as well.
Another blip was when Karan Johar announced Parineeti Chopra as the lead heroine of the movie. While he made the announcement, he attached Akshay Kumar’s still from the movie. Twitterati jumped onto it and slammed him and made jokes on KJo. He quickly deleted it and posted the announcement with a picture of Parineeti Chopra.
A set constructed at Wai, Maharashtra also caught fire during the shoot. While reports suggest that fireworks and ammunition used during the filming of the movie set off the fire, no official confirmation has been given. Reportedly, Rs 8 – 10 crore loss was incurred and the shooting was stalled for nearly a month.
Kesari Release date
Kesari is all set to release on Holi, which is on March 21 this year. That means the movie will release on a Thursday. And with that, the action-packed period drama will enjoy a four-day extended weekend.
The team of Kesari has released several posters. Some showcasing valor and pride, others showing the battle-ready avatar of Akshay Kumar. All these posters have caught everyone’s attention. Check each and every poster right here.
We have seen several movie stills of Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra and the Kesari team. Each and every picture looks exquisite and we can’t wait to see them on the big screen. Check out all the film stills right here.
While the trailer was released sometime back, it did create a massive buzz. It was heart-warming and engaging. The action sequences were out of the world, while the dialogues packed a punch. Akshay Kumar stole our hearts, while Parineeti Chopra’s screen presence was appreciated. Check out the Kesari trailer right here.
The songs of Kesari are fantastic too. From Sanu Kehndi to Ajj Singh Garjega and Teri Mitti, each track has impressed one and all. In fact, they are being played on the loop by everyone. Check out all the songs right here.
Apart from the trailer and songs, the makers have dropped several promos of the movie. From dialogue promos to the making videos, each one will leave you captivated. Check them out right here.
The budget of Kesari is around Rs 80 – 100 crore, which includes all the costs of making the movie and promoting it. This puts the movie in the mid to big-budget film bracket.
While there is no confirmation on the screen space, Kesari should get 3000 plus screens across India. The movie will surely work in both multiplexes as well as single screens. So it will get a fair share of both.
Kesari Box Office Predictions

Guru, Dhoom 2, Umrao Jaan – 5 must-watch Aishwarya Rai – Abhishek Bachchan films
On Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s 12th anniversary, today here’s taking a look at their most memorable films
Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have been the ‘IT’ couple of Bollywood ever since they got hitched in 2007. Apart from making stunning appearances at various events nationally and internationally, the couple has also impressed the audience with their on-screen chemistry. But that’s not all! Apart from having successful film careers, the two are also doting parents to their seven-year-old daughter Aaradhya. While we are sure this powerhouse couple will continue to entertain us in the coming years, for now, we are listing down five of their must-watch films in which they starred together.
Guru (2007) – A masterpiece by director Mani Ratnam, this film impressed the critics and the audience alike. Loosely based on the life of Dhirubhai Ambani, Guru is about a simple villager who is ambitious and comes to Bombay along with his wife Sujata to make it big in the city of dreams. Ash is paired opposite Junior Bachchan in the film and their sizzling chemistry is hard to miss.
Dhoom 2 (2006) – Abhishek and Aishwarya weren’t paired opposite each other in this one. In fact, Abhi played the role of a cop whereas Ash played the antagonist in this action film along with Hrithik Roshan. Despite that, Dhoom 2 was a visual delight for their fans and the whole cat and mouse chase kept everyone hooked to the film which received much praise and adulation from the critics as well.
Raavan (2010) – This isn’t a typical Ramayana tale but is about a bandit Beera Munda (Abhishek Bachchan) who abducts the officer’s wife Ragini (Aishwarya Bachchan) and falls in love with her. Eventually, he lets her go only to realise that she is head-over-heels in love with him as well. On realising this, her husband uses her as a scapegoat to reach the Beera. Even in this film, Abhi and Ash’s chemistry is electrifying.
Umrao Jaan (2006) – This romantic-drama narrates the story about Nawab Sultan (Abhishek Bachchan) who catches the eye of the elegant and the poetic Umrao Jaan (Aishwarya Rai). The two have a passionate romance but unfortunately, Nawab’s father doesn’t approve of it and soon disowns his son. This film is quite complex with all sorts of twists and turns but Abhishek and Aishwarya do justice to their roles.
Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2000) – This was their first film together and though it didn’t receive a lot of praise, the songs did become very popular amongst the masses.
These are their most known films together and on their 12th anniversary, we wish them a blissful marital life filled with happiness and love. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for more.
Salman Khan, Taapsee Pannu are following in the footsteps of these 4 actors – here’s how
Salman Khan and Taapsee Pannu will be seen playing older characters in their respective films, Bharat and Saand Ki Aankh
Bollywood actors and their commitment towards their work is on a different level these days. It’s nothing new in Hollywood for actors to prepare and go through drastic physical changes to become the character they would be playing in order to be more relatable for their audience. Be it weight gain, weight loss, getting six pack abs or even adding more years to their look, actors have never held back.
In recent years, we have seen the same kind of dedication from Bollywood artists as well. While many could say there is a lot more vanity in our industry than in the West, there are bold actors who don’t adhere by these norms and are taking the big step of transforming completely into their onscreen characters. Earlier this week, posters of Salman Khan starrer Bharat and Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar’s Saand Ki Aankh were released online. In their respective films, all the three actors will be seen playing much older characters and they have completely moulded themselves into their on-screen persona and look almost unrecognizable. Well, believe it or not, but in the past, quite a few actors did the same. Take a look…
Salman Khan in Bharat
Salman Khan’s Bharat is one of the most anticipated movies to release this year for all the obvious reasons. The poster of the movie is out and Salman looks almost unrecognizable. Sporting five different looks in the movie, the poster of Bharat shows Salman in a much older version, sporting a salt-n pepper look with heavy beard and moustache
Bhumi Pednekar & Taapsee Pannu in Saand Ki Aankh
In Saand Ki Aankh , Bhumi and Taapsee will be playing the role of the world’s oldest women sharpshooters. Bhumi will be seen as Chandro Tomar while Tapsee will be playing Prakashi Tomar. Staying true to their roles, both the actresses have visibly added years to their look with the help of make-up.
John Abraham in RAW
In the newly released spy thriller Romeo Akbar Walter, John is seen sporting 15 different avatars that too successfully with the help of prosthetics and specialist Preetisheel. Especially John’s look of a 70-year-old man is very convincing.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Sarbjit
In Omung Kumar’s directorial venture, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan played the role of Sarbjit’s sister. The films showcase the 22 years that Sarbjit spent in jail for alleged spying and terrorism. For the same, Aishwarya was happy to leave her vanity aside and played a much older character than her real-life age.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas in 7 Khoon Maaf
Priyanka Chopra has never shied away from taking up risky projects. So it’s not surprising that PeeCee did Vishal Bhardwaj’s Saat Khoon Maaf way back in 2011. In the film, her character ages from 20 to 65 and goes through several marriages at different points in her life. With the help of prosthetics, Priyanka played 7 completely different parts, one being that of a 65-year-old woman.
Rishi Kapoor in Kapoor & Sons
When Rishi Kapoor played 90-year-old grandfather in Kapoor & Sons, he got some help from Oscar-winning American make-up artist Greg Cannom of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Titanic fame. The producer of the film had to shell out Rs 2 crore for the actor’s unbelievable transformation and the look took 5 hours of hard labour every day.

Notre Dame: Befikre to Ilahi – Bollywood films and songs that were shot at the iconic monument in Paris
From Ilahi to Man Ko Ati Bhavey to Befikre, quite a few films and songs were shot at the Notre Dame in Paris
April 15 will be remembered in the coming years as the day that one of the most iconic monuments in the world witnessed doom. The 850-year old Notre Dame Cathedral in France erupted in a fiery blaze, leaving the world in shock. An interesting fact about Notre Dame that you may not know of is that the monument is one of Bollywood’s most preferred shooting locations.
The song Ilahi from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which had Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, was shot in front of the monument. The scene in which Ranbir gets chased by a drug dealer gives us quite a glance of the astounding cathedral.
Ranbir-Anushka-Aishwarya starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) also had scenes shot with the historical monument in the backdrop. In the song An Evening in Paris, you can see Ranbir and Anushka dancing on the street with the Notre Dame cathedral to the far left.
The song Man Ko Ati Bhavey from London Dreams started with the backdrop of the Louvre Museum, post which the scene shifts to the front of the Notre Dame. In one particular scene, we get a whole view of the cathedral while Salman Khan and Asin perform their antics.
London Paris New York also gave us a glimpse of the Notre Dame.
And who can forget the scene between Vani Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in Befikre that had a full view of the Notre Dame?
