90 ML starring Big Boss Tamil viral sensation Oviya Helen released on March 1 in the midst of a lot of criticism on social media. The movie released with an ‘A’ certification, showcasing the life of four girls who are bored with their monotonous lives. They get a new gush of life as they befriend a progressive and sensible independent girl (played by Oviya). The movie had an adult theme with independent women talking about their sexual fantasies, which got the film some criticism from the audience.

Now the director of the film Anita Udeep has called out the audience on their double standards. Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s directorial Super Deluxe has just released and it has been called “The Best Indian Film in recent times” by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap. Anita took to Twitter to make a point saying – Cultured ppl are yet to accept #90ml Girls wanting to live life on their own terms( popularly known as “th*****ya”). If only 5 girls had replaced the 5 boys in #superdeluxe film. @itisthatis flawed women, prostitutes, transgenders – is there a chance for them 2 b accepted?

Kumararaja’s Super Deluxe shows five boys who follow their sexual fantasies through adult films.  While the makers of 90 ML were criticized for promoting pseudo-feminism and spoiling the culture, Super Deluxe is being celebrated. People were highly critical for the portrayal of girls drinking, smoking and discussing their sex lives in a casual manner in Anita’s film. 90ML deals with real-life issues like infidelity, LGBTQ issues, emotional heartbreak from a woman’s perspective. Looking at how close the core subject is between the two films, maybe what Anita is saying does bring up a point that needs to be discussed? Let us know what do you think about this?
