Alia Bhatt was inspired by a Pakistani actress for her role in Kalank

Kalank, that stars Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt has been quite the hype since its announcement. From releasing the teaser, trailer and four dance-worthy songs, they surely have made an impact. And while actors have been talking about their roles in the period drama, Alia Bhatt revealed something interesting about her character Roop from the film.

Alia revealed that she drew inspiration from Zindagi Gulzar Hai actress Sanam Saeed to prepare for her look in Kalank. Alia who was advised by her director Abhishek Varman to watch the TV series shared that “I watched a lot of old films like Mughal-E-Azam and Umrao Jaan to get an understanding of grace and body language. And I had to clean my Hindi as I am speaking Urdu in the film. Abhishek asked me to watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai. The character of the girl Kashaf that is played by Sanam in the show is very much how Roop will deal with the situation. She has responsibility on her shoulders, so she is not always a happy person. She is vulnerable yet strong. It is difficult to bring so many layers to a character. Abhishek kept saying that I should be irritating.”

Alia first heard the film when she was promoting her debut film Student Of The Year. Years later, she said that she heard about the film from Abhishek Varman who had his own adaptation of the film. Kalank will release on April 17 till then stay tuned to CineBlitz for more Bollywood updates.
