AR Rahman released the first song from his film 99 Songs on Thursday. Rahman who was present along with his director Vishvesh Krishnamurti and actor Ehan Bhat plans to release the film in four languages including Tamil Telugu and Kannada.

Rahman found out that the director of the film had locked three actors from Pakistan. Rahman the producer told his director that the relations between India and Pakistan were strained and signing actors from there for his first film was not advisable. He didn’t want any trouble with the release of the film.

There were suggestions that the film’s title should’ve been 100 songs, but Rahman said that was a bit too much and therefore they stuck to the title 99 songs. The legendary music composer said that it is the right time for a musical like this film.

The lead actor of the film is Ehan Bhat who hails from Kashmir. He said that he always wanted to be in films and moved to Mumbai about four years ago. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra felt that he had the potential to be an actor and called him for this film.

The film also stars Ranjit Barot, Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray.
