Contestant Subhranil Paul pays tribute to the original disco dancer – ‘Mithun Da’ on India’s Best Dancer

Sony Entertainment Television’s popular show India’s Best Dancer will celebrate the golden era of Bollywood in the upcoming episodes. This weekend, the top 12 contestants along with choreographers will pay tribute to the Bollywood legends such as Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Sridevi, Rishi Kapoor and many more. These contestants will bring back the magic of Hindi cinema on stage, and will be reviewed by the terrific trio of judges – Geeta Kapur, Terence Lewis and Malaika Arora. Even the dynamic hosts, Haarsh and Bharti will be seen in a new avatar as they take a trip down memory lane.

Keeping up with the theme, contestant Subhranil Paul from Siliguri, performed on a medley of Mithun Da’s hit tracks such as Disco Dancer, and Yaad Aa Raha Hai Tera Pyaar, along with choreographer Pankaj. The duo who is known to win the judges hearts each time with their unique acts, impressed them once again as they paid homage to the Original Disco Dancer of Bollywood.

Malaika, who whistled for their act, added, “Mithun Da is my favourite dancer. He is brilliant. The steps that you did, are very typical steps that Mithun Da has done over the years. We identify him through these steps. In fact we have all tried these steps a thousand times at every party, every show… and so have I. But what I enjoyed the most is that through your choreography, you brought in newness, style and finesse. This was a seeti-maar performance. Main to yaha entertainment dekhti hun, aur ye entertainment ka baap hai!”

Geeta Kapur only agreed and praised their performance further by adding, “Not just our era, but even today’s era identifies with Mithun Da because he had an individuality. And his journey wasn’t that easy. A simple boy, goes on to achieve recognition globally, and not just for himself but his character too… Jimmy is the most popular name which immediately makes people recollect Mithun Da. And it’s so inspirational because Mithun Da is one such a legend who re-establishes the fact that no matter where you come from, whichever field you may choose, be passionate and committed to it, so much so that people start associating you with that. During his time, Disco Dancing wasn’t really considered to be a competitive dance form in our field. And Mithun Da himself never had any formal training this this dance form as well. Yet, he pursued it with a lot of love and passion and his moves went on to achieve an iconic status. Well done. I loved the act.”
