Hasti DoshiApart from the story, if the dialogues in the film are powerful then it’s sure to be a success. Over the years, many engaging scripts and dumdaar dialogues have been written in Bollywood. In fact, when we watch a Salman Khan film we expect Dabangg dialogues from him. And when it’s Shah Rukh Khan, we obviously know he is going to drive us crazy with his romantic, mushy lines. Because dialogues stay with us even after a film is over, it’s important for them to be hard-hitting and impactful. Currently, the one dialogue that has become very popular amongst the masses is ‘How’s the Josh’ from Vicky Kaushal’s Uri- The Surgical Strike.
But on this Women Day’s, we have decided to list down 5 iconic dialogues that were written for the actress and left a mark in the Hindi cinema.
In the film Begum Jaan, Vidya Balan has a lot of whistle-worthy dialogues but the one that really stood out was, “Mahina humein ginna ata hai saahab..Har baar saala lal kar ke jaata hai.” Set in the backdrop of India’s independence, Vidya played the role of a brothel head and gave a fine performance in the film. But since we are talking about dialogues, the credit for this one goes to Kausar Munir.
If Priyanka Chopra Jonas is delivering a powerful, strong line then it certainly can’t go unnoticed. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, Priyanka played the role of Kashi Bai to perfection. And while most of her dialogues in the film wowed us, there was one particular line that remained with everyone and it was – Aap humse humari zindagi maang lete, hum aapko khushi khushi de dete. Par aapne to humse humara guroor hi cheen liya.
In the same film, Priyanka’s co-star Deepika Padukone also had some fabulous lines. But her dialogue – Kiski talvar par sir rakhu yeh bata do mujhe, ishq karna agar khata hai toh saza do mujhe – so effortlessly conveyed the message that love is strength and not a weakness.
In Bhansali’s last film Padmaavat, another powerful dialogue was written for Deepika’s character and it brought her fierce fighting spirit. The dialogue we are talking about goes like this, “Rajputi kangan mein utni hi dhar hai jitni talwar mein.”
Rajkumar Santoshi’s film Lajja was basically about women and their plight in this male dominated world. It starred four talented actresses – Rekha, Manisha Koirala, Madhuri Dixit and Mahima Chaudhry. While all of them were given strong punch lines, Madhuri’s dialogue – Roti kaamane ke liye aurat ghar se nikaltinahi…ki tankha dene waala har aadmi usse apne baap ka maal samajhta hai – aptly summed what’s wrong with the society in the most direct way possible.
This was our list and we feel all the bold and powerful dialogues written for the women were delivered exactly the way they should have been by our leading ladies. Tell us in the comments section below which is the most powerful dialogue written for women in films according to you.
