Kabir Singh has been doing exceedingly well at the box office since its release. However, along with all the success, many people have also been labelling the movie misogynistic and sexist. While the audience is divided on that, now director Sandeep Reddy Vanga seems to have irked the Netizens unanimously with his most recent comments.
In an interview, Sandeep said, “When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there.” Later, the filmmaker also spoke about a particular scene in the film, in which Shahid Kapoor’s character Kabir Singh slaps Kiara Advani’s character Preeti Sikka. He adds, “She slapped him without a reason, at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can’t slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can’t kiss, I don’t see any emotion there.” Post this interview, which Shahid posted on Twitter on July 6, many Twitter users including celebs like Kubbra Sait, Gulshan Devaiah took to the micro-blogging site to express their disdain. Kubbra Sait who had a rather humorous take on the situation wrote, “if you can’t slap, touch your woman wherever you want, I don’t see emotion’. SRV. (I am being sarcastic! No sir it’s not the way one defines love. That’s a toxic real-time relationship. It shouldn’t exist.)” Check out what the rest of them had to say:

“When you question their belief system, I think people get angry” – Sandeep Reddy Vanga. So @imvangasandeep questioning the belief system is a two way street sir and not your exclusive right . Btw many congratulations on your epic BoxOffice success #FCPostmortem

By promoting movies like Kabir Singh and directors like Sandeep Reddy Vanga, we are indulging a highly destructive catharsis that will hurt everyone in its path. It is not art, but abuse of cinema to normalise violence against women https://t.co/BFAXTmSEp5

I knew a Kabir Singh in college and I shudder at the thought of revisiting memories from that time of my life, all thanks to him. Didn't think I will muster the energy to put this out but Sandeep Vanga's interview triggered stuff even watching Arjun Reddy for context couldn't. /1

An ex partner punched me in the eye to the extent that my eyes are of different shapes now. Banged my head against the car window during one fight and twisted my hand that left marks on my forearm. So don't tell me that physical violence is a form of love. Because it isn't.

What an arrogant sexist prick this man #SandeepReddyVanga is! And insecure as hell. His film is a monstrous hit and yet he is rattled by what critics had to say. And no Mr. Vang’s, you do not call someone fat – that’s rude, offensive, inconsiderate and very politically incorrect.
