Emerging strong as far as digital entertainment goes, actor Namit Das has levelled with the reality of the new normal and graced the OTT screen by starring in unique ventures. One such digital outing to have been streamed on the actor’s birthday (10th of July) over ZEE5 is Birsa Dasgupta’s Mafia. Namit’s latest series is about six college buddies who reunite for a bachelorette party that turns into a game of whodunnit as the past returns to haunt them.
The actor who is known to have essayed ‘the good guy’ is springing up quite a few surprises this year as he picks up roles that have grey shades and a dark side to them. Most recently, in Dasgupta’s psychological thriller, Mafia the talented actor hit the digital screen as Nitin Kumar, a Dalit from Bihar, who enters the police force to fight against the injustice meted out to his community.
The actor has been receiving acclaim for his layered performance in the series, which has been reviewed as a gripping narrative that deserves a place on OTT viewers’ weekend binge-watch list. Having remarked earlier that the streaming of Mafia is the best birthday gift he could’ve asked for, Namit is overwhelmed at the tremendous response to his portrayal of Kumar.
He says, “This year has been very kind to me and the viewers have been so affectionate that I can only be grateful for everything. Essaying Nitin was a fun challenge and it really helped me vicariously experience the societal difference between the haves and the have-nots. It was also an intense experience for me because Nitin navigates the unfair world and is dealing with his inner demons. When that is planted into a story, in which skeletons of the past come tumbling out, it is a thrill for the actors too! I hope Mafia continues to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”
