Shahid Kapoor Birthday special! Padmaavat, Udta Punjab, Jab We Met- 5 times the actor bowled us over

It’s Shahid Kapoor’s birthday and he is someone who definitely doesn’t need any introduction. His dancing skills and acting talent prove why he has managed to stay in the industry for so long. Sasha made his successful Bollywood debut with Ishq Vishk in 2003. However, it was his role in Fida (2004) opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan that made us love him even more. His bright smile and that chocolate boy looks were enough to set our hearts pounding. He has, since then, grown and experimented with his roles and to see him deliver terrific performances time and again has been quite thrilling. So as Shahid continues to rule our hearts, on his birthday we list down 5 films that brought much acclaim and adulation:

Vivah (2006)

Co-starring Amrita Rao, this romantic drama directed by Sooraj Barjatya was filled with bittersweet moments and beautiful songs. Shahid gave a fine performance as Prem who marries his fiancée even after she gets burnt during an accident. With this film, the Kapoor lad successfully established himself as a romantic hero.

Jab We Met (2007)

It’s true that Kareena Kapoor was his lucky charm or so people may say. Their onscreen passionate chemistry was like poetry in motion. And no wonder, they set the screen fire with this particular film. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Jab We Met had all the ingredients of a blockbuster film and Shahid-Bebo’s jodi further helped in making it a cult classic. While Kareena’s role was fun, loud and quirky, Shahid matched up to her with his understated performance, leaving everyone in awe once again.

Haider (2013)

Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of Hamlet was nothing less than a cinematic experience for all the viewers. And though Shahid’s character was dark, intense and complex all at the same time, he gave a towering performance and totally owned the film. Of course, his co-star Tabu was brilliant too. But Sasha was equally good if not more in Haider which is considered as one of Bhardwaj’s most-acclaimed film. Also, with this one, Shahid once again proved his versatility as an actor.

Udta Punjab (2016)

As Tommy Singh in this Abhishek Chaubey directorial venture, Shahid impressed everyone and how. He played the role of a rockstar who lives luxuriously and is addicted to cocaine. As someone who is always high on drugs, Sasha was not only convincing but seemed very real and relatable. And that’s the sign of good actor, we think. There is no actor who could have played Tommy as well as Shahid did. Period!

Padmaavat (2018)

Starring alongside Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, this movie was definitely the one where Shahid could have easily gotten overshadowed by his co-stars but he didn’t. As Maharawal Ratan Singh, Mira Rajput’s hubby was perfect. Neither did he try too hard to shine in the film, nor did he underplay as a Rajput ruler. He found the perfect balance to play this important role and that obviously was noticed by one and all.
