After the massive success of Ranveer Singh starrer Simbaa, which was a spin-off of the blockbuster series Singham starring Ajay Devgn in lead, filmmaker Rohit Shetty has now birthed a new storyline running through the Singham universe, titled Sooryavanshi. The film starring Akshay Kumar in the title role has been widely anticipated by the fans of the cop series. In the picture shared by Rohit on Instagram, Kumar looks fit and very soldier-like, exciting fans even more. Along with it, Shetty wrote, “No Uniforms…No Marked Cars…ANTI TERRORISM SQUAD – The GHOST department of our Police Force…SOORYAVANSHI @akshaykumar.”

The Singham films saw the main character as an inspiring, do-gooder cop. However, the next film Simbaa, starring Ranveer and Sara Ali Khan, had quite the dramatic role reversal with Singh playing a corrupt cop who turns the tables. This film will see Akshay playing the role of an ATS chief but the explicit details of the film’s plot are yet to be revealed.
The film will also star Katrina Kaif in the lead and will be produced by Karan Johar and directed by Rohit Shetty. Sooryavanshi is slated for release on May 22, 2020.
