Earlier Bollywood was abuzz with the news of the several films being selected for the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne. And now another Indian film, Bombay Rose has been chosen to open at the Venice Film Festival in Italy. Bombay Rose, an animated film is the first-ever animated film chosen to be a part of the festival.

Bombay Rose is the story of a flower-seller who has to make the choice between protecting her family and allowing herself to fall in love. The film has been directed by animator Gitanjali Rao. She said in a statement, “I have always wanted to paint stories about people who live and love in the streets of Bombay. And they never become success stories, yet their struggle for survival makes heroes out of them. This is the city with its cast of unsung heroes and heroines that I want to share with the world. And why I started this labour of love 6 years ago. These fans of my stories give me confidence that my first feature film, Bombay Rose. It is about simple people with their simple yet impossible dreams, can connect with people around the world. I am thrilled that Bombay Rose will be the first Indian animation film to open Venice Critics Week.”

The Venice Film Festival will commence on August 28. Stay tuned to CineBlitz for latest updates.
