Hema Malini Smriti Irani Lok Sabha Elections 2019

Bollywood has always been in synergy with politics. In fact, we have seen many veteran actors take on political careers after a decent run at the movies. Some of the prominent names in this are Hema Malini, Kirron Kher, Smriti Irani, Shatrughan Sinha, etc. We have seen PM Narendra Modi share a great rapport with Bollywood celebs, and you might recall how they met him with regards to waiving of GST before the Union budget was announced. Even this morning, we saw how the Prime Minister urged actors, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, to ask people to go and vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

This evening, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced the first list of candidates and the constituencies they will be contesting from. On the list, several Bollywood and TV personalities’ names have come up. From the list that was announced at the BJP headquarters today, Hema Malini was announced to be contesting from the Mathura constituency. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi actress and Union Minister Smriti Irani will be contesting from Amethi. Singer Babul Supriyo will be contesting from Asansol. As for the other names, PM Narendra Modi will be contesting from Varanasi, whereas BJP president Amit Shah has replaced L K Advani and will be contesting from Gandhinagar.

During the announcement, 184 names were pronounced in the first list, and Mr Nadda said that more 17 names have been finalized for Bihar. Now we will have to wait and watch if Shatrughan Sinha will contest from Patna Sahib again, and if Kirron Kher will retain her constituency of Chandigarh. Actress Isha Koppikkar has also joined the BJP recently, and we will have to wait and watch if she too will contest from any constituency. The Lok Sabha elections begin from April 11, and will be conducted in seven phases, the votes will be counted on May 23.
