The character of Mohini in Tezaab raised Madhuri Dixit Nene to new heights of success and made her a star overnight. Tezaab turned out to be a game changer for many and was touted as one of the most prominent films in the Hindi Cinema. Back then, revenge drama was the trending genre and there were many films around the same subject which were also doing well. Analyst Dilip Thakur, when asked about his memories from the film, said “It was the beginning of my career when I was on the sets of Tezaab. I still remember N.Chandra, when the film went hit, shot another number with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit Nene and put it into the film after a long time of its release. The film was a huge thing for everyone.” Directed by N. Chandra, the film released on November 11 in the year 1988, but the filming of Tezaab began on February 27. Since yesterday marked 32 years of the Muhurat day of Tezaab, we thought of bringing you some interesting anecdotes about the film, probably the ones that many of you are unaware of. So take a look and relive the journey of Tezaab.
Madhuri was clueless that the film had become a hit:
Those were the days when actors used to switch between five film sets at the same time shooting for all in shifts. And Madhuri became one of the busiest of actresses after Tezaab. The film released during the Diwali season and the lead actress was in America to visit her sister. Madhuri, who was going through a low phase professionally, had just worked in a film that had changed the course of her career. However, there were no resources then that would let Madhuri know that her film had become a huge hit. It was only when she landed in Mumbai that she learnt about her film’s success. All the locals, taxi drivers, and the airport staff recognised her as Mohini and gathered around to praise her. This was the moment that shocked Madhuri. She realised she had become famous and had added a hit film to her kitty.
The Muhurat and the first clap were done by these legends:
Somewhere N. Chandra knew he was making a blockbuster and therefore the film was started in the presence of superstars. The Muhurat of the film was done by none other than yesteryear actor Jitendra himself. And the first clap for the film was given by the Shahenshah of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan. Indeed a great start to a project.
The song Ek Do Teen was shot only….
There is no one who doesn’t remember the song Ek Do Teen and Madhuri dancing on it like fire. The track has a fan base of itself and we all know about the hard work that went into the making it. Choreographed by Saroj Khan, the song was shot in just two days. Yes, only two days. The complete cast and crew shot day and night to finish the song. So now we know that the song is a labour of very hard work. Also to bring the original feel of an audience, real people were allowed to enter the set and the ones you see in the film aren’t actors or background crew but they are actually the aam janta.
Nana Patekar was initially part of Tezaab:
At, the beginning the cast also included Nana Patekar, who later decided to quit. What happened is that there was a tiff between Nana and Chandra regarding his role due to which Nana backed out and Chandra went ahead without that character. Nana and Chandra actually had a partnership of three films in the past – Ankush, Pratighaat, and Wajood.
