Madhuri Dixit Nene may have turned 52 today (May 15), but her radiant smile and killer looks still enchant many around her. In her 35 years of Bollywood career, she has impressed everyone with her versatile performance and even today many young cinema-goers are a big fan of her work. From Chandramukhi in Devdas to Kalank’s Bahar Begum, Madhuri’s many roles have left everyone star-struck. She started off her career with Abodh but rose to fame with her performance in Tezab and ever since there was no looking back for the Dhak Dhak girl. Today (May 15) on her birthday take a look at 7 of her iconic roles that we will forever cherish.

# Dil (1990): One of the best performances of Madhuri was in Dil. This was her first film with Aamir Khan and their chemistry was beyond magical. She essayed the role of a stubborn, rich girl who falls in love with a middle-class boy, Aamir and with this role she proved that she is not just about dancing but also good acting. Madhuri bagged her first award for this movie. The songs also became instant hits and the film was remade in many other languages.

# Saajan (1991): Madhuri yet again surprised everyone with her performance in Saajan. Starring Aamir Khan and Sanjay Dutt, the story revolved around a love triangle between the three actors. Madhuri’s character Pooja fell in love with Salman Khan’s character Akash only to find out that he is posing to be someone else (his brother Aman, a poet) and the story becomes very engaging just because of her acting. The song of the film like Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai, Bahut Pyar Karte Hai, Jiye Toh Jiye Kaise still remain to be iconic.

# Beta (1992): Beta became the highest grossing film in 1992 and also one of Madhuri’s best performances. The famous nickname Dhak Dhak girl was coined only after her song Dhak Dhak Karne Laga from this movie. Madhuri essayed the role of a strong woman in this film where she tried to help save her husband (Anil Kapoor) from his evil step-mother. Although, the film was named Beta, Madhuri effortlessly carried the weight on her shoulder and made it a blockbuster.

# Hum Aapke Hai Kaun (1994): This character of Madhuri needs no introduction. Nisha aka Madhuri’s transformation from a young, chirpy girl to a mature, selfless woman made people fall in love with her even more. Her chemistry with Salman Khan is still unmatched and Madhuri danced her way to the fan’s hearts with her quirky expressions and amazing acting.

# Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997): Madhuri was seen with Shah Rukh Khan for the second time after Anjaam and their Jodi was a hit at the box office. The film garnered a lot of love for its storyline and soundtrack. And Madhuri’s character was loved by all. The film went on to premiere in the 2014 International Film Festival of India in Celebrating Dance in Indian cinema section and that was just because of the exceptional dancing skill of Madhuri and Karisma.

# Devdas (2002): Madhuri reunited with Shah Rukh Khan again for Devdas and essayed the role of a courtesan. Her dialogues, her expressions, her iconic dance number made this film look exceptionally magnificent. This was one of the boldest role ever taken up by her and she left everyone impressed with her acting skill as Chandramukhi.

# Dedh Ishqiya (2014): Madhuri yet again took up a dynamic role as a comeback to the big screen. She essayed the role of a courtesan disguised as a widowed Begum named Begum Para and the way she played the role intricately left everyone mesmerized. Her camaraderie with Naseeruddin Shah, Huma Qureshi and Arshad Warsi was fun to watch.

Although Madhuri has many other amazing films in her kitty, like Lajja, Anjaam, Ram Lakhan, Mritydand, Pukar which were blockbuster, these were our favourite iconic roles of her.
