Manoj Kumar says, “Very sad news. Today, the sun has brought darkness. We have worked together to seek her blessings. We are the ones who grew up in the lap of the voice of the goddess of voice. Her voice was such that it did not break and will never break. She was a boon for me. Today every breath is voiceless. She has given voice to every instrument. She has pleased every soul. She was a boon from God. I had a film – Ricky. There was a song in it – Ram Naam Mein Jadoo Aisa, Ram Naam Mann Bhaye Re. When I went to pay for it, Lata did not take the money. She started saying that I have never heard such a good bhajan on Ramji”.

Manoj further said, “This shock has made my mind so numb that nothing is understood. It is a big shock that now Lataji is no more with us. Well Lata ji is and will be. Despite being so great, she lived every moment in the world of music as an Upanishad. She used to say that I am learning. Look at her nobility that once she started saying- Manoj ji! Your songs are very meaningful. Give me a good song too. There was so much bigness in them. Don’t ask anything right now. Today every instrument is silent, tired of crying. This is what their sisters, their brothers have to do. May God give strength to bear this sorrow.”

Manoj Kumar has fond memories of the late nightingale Lata Mangeshkar who passed away yesterday at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital. He has penned “Kuch Nahi Pata Kya Huwi Khata Sansar Se Jo Rooti Swar Ki Devta Lata”.
