Rumours about Nana Patekar getting a clean chit in regards to the Tanushree Dutta sexual harassment case have been making rounds off late.  But if Tanushree is to be believed, there is no truth to this information. The Aashiq Banaya Aapne actress issued a statement yesterday (May 17) exclaiming that Nana has not been given a clean chit and the case is still in court. To add weight to the same, her advocate, Nitin Satpute, even held a press conference last night. Here are the highlights of the event:

# The advocate first cleared the air and shunned the floating rumours by saying, He said, “No clinch is given to Nana Patekar and other accused by the police. It cannot be given orally. It can be approved by the concerned magistrate and then only can a person be declared guilt free.”

# He stressed on the point that this rumour has been spread only to get Nana some work in the film industry. He said that a clean chit can be approved by the court after filing a summary report for classification of offences and nothing of such sorts has happened till now.

# “Police have recorded almost 15 witnesses but the key witnesses, who are also the eyewitness of the incident, have not recorded their statements due to fear,” told the advocate. He explained that the witnesses are not coming forward because of fear of the accused person as they are highly influential people.

# He revealed that some eyewitnesses even went on to talk with the media and confirm that they were eyewitnesses but are afraid to get involved with the police. There is no protection or security or safety for the witnesses and hence they are backing out. He revealed, “One of the eyewitnesses isn’t coming forward to support Tanushree Dutta’s version of the story, as seen by them 10 years back, because she doesn’t want to get into any trouble or legal complication.”

# He concluded by saying, “If the accused is arrested then the witness will feel safe and will come forward to record their statement in the police station. The investigation is still going on and the police are doing their job at their level best. There is a little delay in the investigation as the police are also bound by the controlling law and order situation as well as the election processes.”
