After hits like Batla House and Super 30, Mrunal Thakur will next be seen in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s ‘Toofaan’ presented by Amazon in association with Excel Entertainment and ROMP Pictures. Starring Farhan Akhtar, Mrunal Thakur, Paresh Rawal and Supriya Pathak among others, the sports drama has a talented ensemble starcast. Stepping into the role of Ananya, a simple girl with an indomitable spirit, Mrunal embraced her character, who in many ways she relates to.
Apart from being emotional, enthusiastic and family oriented, just like her character Ananya, the actress was completely inspired by her role and hopes to live the lessons she’s learnt from her character in real life.
Says Mrunal, “My character Ananya is a motivator not just in Ajju’s (Farhan Akhtar’s character) life, but also in the lives of everyone around her. She is very liberal, dedicated and a woman with a vision. Off screen, it was me who was so inspired by Ananya and the way she looks at things. Ananya believes in equality and her agenda in life is to inspire people. Now, when I wake up every day, I ask myself how is it that I’m going to inspire. I feel extremely fortunate to be an actor where I can represent the voice of the voiceless and through my films; through the subjects that I choose, can inspire the nation.”

Apart from connecting with the role, the sports drama also gave Mrunal Thakur an opportunity to speak in her mother tongue Marathi – Adds Mrunal, “The best part is both Ananya and I are Maharashtrians. You will hear me speak Marathi in between because it comes so naturally. When you have actors like Paresh sir responding in Marathi, it becomes such a nice space of creativity and fun.”
‘Toofaan’, the inspirational sports drama produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra & Farhan Akhtar will premiere on Amazon Prime Video – 21st May 2021.
