Director, Producer and actress Gehana Vasisth makes news no matter where she is. After being released from the Byculla Women’s Jail, Gehana announced that she is starting work on her film tentatively titled ‘Trip to Jail’.‘Trip to Jail’ will also be made in a web series format and will first premiere on an international OTT platform. It will later be released in theaters. For the record, Gehana runs her own production house GV Studios.

The feature film will be distributed by a big national distributor and right now Gehana is talking to several big names. She refuses to mention who is bank-rolling the film, but only says that big names are involved. “Let the lock down restrictions be over, we will hold a press conference and announce all the names,” Gehana told this reporter.

Believe it or perish, according to Gehana, the approximate budget of the film is Rs 250 crore and will feature 300 prisoners (actors) in an actual setting. It will be shot in a bio-bubble in a far-off deserted location away from cities and towns, so as not to be affected by the lock down in different places. Even the courts, police stations or thanas will be created as part of a massive set, Gehana informs.

She has already written 90 per cent of the script in the 5 months that she spent at the Byculla Women’s Jail in Mumbai, before she was bailed out. She also was infected with the deadly Coronavirus and was housed in a ‘jail quarantine centre’ specially set up by the government for Covid positive under trials. Along with her at the jail as well as the Covid quarantine centre was another celebrity prisoner Indrani Mukherjea, founder of INX Media.

Gehana is tight-lipped about other details about the project but her spokesperson confirms that work on the film is in full swing. “We are casting actors who have had some jail experience, so that they know exactly what it means to be a prisoner of the judicial system in India. Right now it’s at the pre-production stage. Two big A-category male actors will be part of the cast, which will also feature Gehana (playing herself) in the main lead. There will be 5 to 6 songs and the main soundtrack is being prepared,” he signs off.

Will it be completed on time as per Genana’s plans and what’s more, whether it will feature her own actual experiences, we ask Gehana. “Well wait and watch”, she quips. Well, we have no other alternative but to wait!
