A delightful surprise twist at the recent celeb-studded GIEBA Awards 2024, held at Mukesh Patel (NMIMS) Auditorium, was when the dignified legendary actress awardee Mumtaz shared the stage with eminent veteran star-singer awardee Udit Narayan. Despite the presence of various other sports, corporate and showbiz celebs, and ISRO scientists, evergreen charming Mumtaz was the cynosure of all eyes and was mobbed by both elderly and young fans.  The dignified ‘Apna Desh’ actress Mumtaz-Askari-Madhvani was accompanied by her tall, smart, handsome star-actor-nephew Shaad Randhawa (of ‘Aashiqui 2, ‘Ek Villain’ and ‘Ek Villain Returns’, etc fame).

Besides ‘living legend’ Mumtaz, the turn-out of film and showbiz celebrities at the glittering late-evening event included renowned playback singer Udit Narayan, showman film director Anil Sharma (of ‘Gadar 2 fame), actor Upendra Limaye (‘Gun master Freddy’ of mega-hit movie ‘Animal’ fame), celeb singer Hans Raj Hans, popular versatile star-actress Mona Singh, actress Sahila Chadha and famous duo-sister pop-singers Preeti-Pinky.

The modest Mumtaz while on stage, reacted with, “Compared to the extraordinary achievements of the ISRO Team towards Space Research and recent Chandrayaan-3 moon-landing and Aditya L-1 spacecraft, my achievements are nothing, “She said amidst loud applause. It was so heartening when Mumtaz responded to her chartbuster song ‘Chupp Gaye Saare Nazaare’ being played with her amazing facial expressions and hand gestures. Showering compliments on Udit, the outspoken Mumtaz said, “Udit Narayan is the best singer, but only after Rafi-sahab”. Moments later, awardee “fidaa-fan” Udit sang extempore a few lines extempore of her popular hit song ‘Yunhi Tum Mujhse Baat Karti Ho’ from her movie ‘Sachhaa Jhutha’ (1970). Which had former Bollywood heroine Mumtaz blushing, even as she seemed touched by Udit’s sentimental respectful gesture.
