The truth is stranger than fiction, and many a times, much more fascinating! Some films have storylines that seem too good to be true, but surprisingly enough depict what actually happened in real life. Brought to you by PVR Pictures, here are four such titles available online that will intrigue, inspire and invigorate lovers of realistic cinema:

The Imitation Game

We call him the “father of computer science”, but how many of us know his real journey? Alan Turing, a gifted cryptanalyst, was instrumental in helping Britain overcome the monstrous might of Germany, by cracking their secret codes during World War 2. What he got in return though was nothing short of heart wrenching. Punished for his personal choices, the man who broke through Hitler’s forces met an unimaginable end.

With Benedict Cumberbatch delivering a riveting performance in the titular role, this is a powerful historical drama for the ages. The Imitation Game is available on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes and Google Play Movies.

The Mauritanian

What began as a measure to protect the country, ended up as an excuse to terrify and torture! The Mauritanian tells the story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi, a man who suffered enormous pain and agony for no fault of his own, but still kept the faith going. The Tahar Rahim starrer presents us with some uncomfortable truths about America’s paranoia after 9/11, which led to the unethical and unlawful imprisonment of many innocent people.

Also featuring stalwarts like Jodie Foster, Shailene Woodley and Benedict Cumberbatch, the Kevin Macdonald directorial stays with us long after the credits roll. The Mauritanian is available on Amazon Prime Video and BookMyShow Stream.

The Current War

Thomas Alva Edison and Nikola Tesla, two absolute superstars of the new age, beyond their legend though, is a rivalry of mythical proportions. The Current War explores this exact dynamic as we travel back to the late 19th century, when society was just on the brink of a technological revolution. With an aggressive battle between Edison, Tesla and George Westinghouse, who will be the first one to light the planet with electricity?

Starring a studded ensemble that includes the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Micheal Shannon, Nicholas Hoult and Tom Holland amongst others, if you are up for an intense edge of the seat ride, The Current War is just the film for you. The Current War is available on BookMyShow stream.

The Founder

Where there’s a will, there’s a McDonald’s! The mammoth fast food chain has taken over the globe, but its inception involved greed, fraud and betrayal. The Founder sees Michael Keaton star as Ray Kroc, the enigmatic yet controversial face behind the ever smiling smiling yellow clown. This is a Shakespearean tale where the original men behind the brand were sidelined by a cunning and sly fox who tricked them into ignominy.

How did an ordinary salesman become one of the most powerful business heads on earth? Watch the film to know more! The Founder is available on iTunes.
