Rami Malek won the Best Actor award for his film Bohemian Rhapsody at the 91st Academy Awards in Los Angeles over the weekend. Though Rami was the top contender for the win, the other nominees gave him tough competition. Just as the Egyptian origin actor collected his Golden lady and was walking off the stage, he fell down the stairs and paramedics were quickly called for his assistance. The 37-year-old fell towards the audience seating area but managed to protect his Golden lady as best as he could.

Reportedly, even as Malek tumbled over with the trophy in his hand, he didn’t let go and tried to save it from getting damaged. Rami was then asked to sit in the front row and was looked over by paramedics almost immediately. Luckily, by then the ceremony was over and most of the attendees had left the auditorium. Paramedics had a good look at him and checked him for any possible bruises or concussions. Thankfully, there was nothing to worry about as the actor was later seen opening a bottle of champagne at the Governor’s Ball shortly after the ceremony. Well, we are relieved to hear that.

The fall was obviously a little embarrassing for the actor but for us, his emotional acceptance speech is what we will remember from the night. During his speech, he held on tight to his trophy and said “Oh my god, my mother is here somewhere. Oh, I love you, lady! You know, my dad didn’t get to see me do any of this, but I think he’s looking down on me right now. This is a monumental moment.” After thanking the film’s crew and producers, the handsome actor also thanked his lady love saying, “Lucy Boynton, you’re the heart of this film. You are beyond immensely talented. You have captured my heart. Thank you so much.”
