Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Bollywood and other film industries to shoot in Jammu and Kashmir. After revocation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories, Modi urged filmmakers from all over the country including Bollywood, Telugu and Tamil industries to shoot in Kashmir.
Modi said that a majority of old movies were shot in the Kashmir valley. He believes that shooting of films in Kashmir will not only provide an ideal location but also generate employment for the youth in the state. He feels that Jammu and Kashmir has a huge potential to become one of the top tourist destinations in the world and the government is working towards improving the situation in the Valley. Modi holds the opinion that support is needed from Bollywood to invest in cinema halls and other infrastructure needed to promote cinema in the state.
Throughout the decades after independence Bollywood was in love with Kashmir. Stars like Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Asha Parekh, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor can be seen romancing the stunningly beautiful Kashmir valley in hundreds of Bollywood songs. However after an Islamist insurgency broke out in the 90’s Bollywood turned towards foreign locations, especially Switzerland.
Now the current government is hoping that things improve for the better and Bollywood is able to return to its most favourite filming destinations in Kashmir. Keep reading CineBlitz for more news and information related to Bollywood.
