The Producers Guild of India and the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) have joined hands to help revamp the system of obtaining approvals for the use of animals in films and TV. They have come up with a new online system for obtaining approvals for provision of animals on shoots, and have opened a new portal – www.ospar.nic.in – for producers and animal owners alike to use. In addition to this, today (May 8) AWBI will be conducting workshops in Mumbai to explain the new process to animal owners. Here’s a picture from the event:
Talking about the change in procedure, Kulmeet Makkar, CEO of Producers Guild of India said, “This is a very significant move and we are grateful to the Animal Welfare Board of India for making the entire process of use of animals in films, television programs and web productions simpler, faster and transparent. Many of the producers faced various kinds of bottlenecks and harassment in the past while seeking permissions for filming with animals. We, therefore, believe that the online process launched by the Animal Welfare Board of India will eliminate unnecessary complexities and also the role of middlemen in seeking permissions.”
“We are happy to launch the new online approval system, which we believe will address the industry’s concerns on approval, delays and transparency,” added Neelam Bala, the secretary of the AWBI. For more updates on this front and latest Bollywood news, stay tuned to CineBlitz!
