His work is consistently bold, insightful, and engaging, earning him critical acclaim and a growing fanbase. Kakkad’s upcoming Marathi film Raanti is generating significant buzz. Starring renowned actors like Sharad Kelkar, Santosh Juvekar, and Chhaya Kadam, Raanti is already being hailed as one of the most anticipated Marathi films of the year.
Speaking about the film he says “Raanti is one of my most ambitious films, the idea was to push the boundary of what we have seen in Marathi cinema. I am grateful to have a brilliant cast in Sharad, Santosh, Sanjay, Chhaya and the entire team. It has been my constant endeavour, to push the envelope for myself, that’s what keeps me going.”
Kakkad’s journey began with films like Aayna ka Bayna Half Ticket, heartfelt and powerful Marathi films that garnered attention on the international festival circuit. The film’s success not only marked Kakkad’s entry into the world of impactful cinema but also showcased his ability to bring emotional depth to even the simplest of stories. Subsequently his film Acharyachakit and shows like Indori Ishq and Dharavi Bank, earned him rave reviews.
“Cinema for me is a medium to express the unseen and unspoken. With each of my work, it has always been the story first and then everything else follows. I don’t think I can function in any other manner.” He says speaking about choosing his subjects.
Beyond Raanti, Kakkad is also developing a major Hindi feature film, when quizzed about it he says “I have signed with Sanjay Gupta to direct a feature for him and there is a book I am adapting with a production house. Both of them are starkly different stories and I’ll share details soon”
