We recently told you how Rajkumar Hirani’s name as a co-producer had been dropped from the credits of the posters of the Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s upcoming film Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, post a complaint lodged against him. Not just that, a big event for the film that was to take place this week too had been cancelled. We have found out that the reason for the ouster was not just any complaint, but one accusing him of sexual misconduct, that led him to be unceremoniously dropped from the film. According to insiders, a senior female technician from his directorial Sanju has filed a case of harassment against Hirani. Hirani remained unavailable all through. The complainant did not reply to our messages and calls. Even Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of the Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor starrer, refused to reply to all messages and calls. The other team members are also choosing to stay mum on the case for now.
However, when contacted Ashoke Pandit, the President of Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) assured that they would look into the matter and take the necessary action required if the case is referred to them. He said, “If the case is referred to us, we will definitely deal with it like we have dealt with all such cases in the past.” IFTDA had recently announced #MeToo accused director Sajid Khan’s suspension for one year. The director had stepped down from the film Housefull 4 after being accused of sexual misconduct by actor Rachel White, assistant director Saloni Chopra, and a journalist, among others. The body had also taken strict action against senior actor Alok Nath, another #MeToo accused.
It may be recalled that the teaser of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga had credited Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani as producers, in association with Fox Star Studios, whereas the posters released later only mentioned Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s name as producer. The film, produced by Chopra and directed by his sister Shelly Chopra Dhar, stars Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao, and is slated to release on February 1. What do you think about this?
