While most filmmakers and actors flock to hold and host special screenings of their films for those in seats of power, filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra believes in a different chain of thoughts. The filmmaker launched the trailer of his upcoming film Mere Pyare prime Minister today. A look at the trailer reveals that the film addresses topics like sanitation, open defecation, sexual violence and other serious issues pertaining women too. However, going by the trailer, which is already garnering much appreciation, the topics seem to have been dealt interestingly. However, the film is not about just one issue, insists Mehra. “My film is not about open defecation,” points out the filmmaker, adding, “That’s not my job. I am instead trying to see how to change the consciousness towards women and the outlook towards their safety.”

But what did catch our attention was the fact that the critically-acclaimed filmmaker when asked if he would show the film to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, especially since the film addresses a Prime Minister, Mehra replied in the negative. “I am sure he has many more important things and pressing issues to handle than to attend special screenings,” he said. However, the director insists that it’s not like he would not want him to see the film either. This reply comes as a surprise also because the PM has been increasingly forging stronger bonds with the film industry and working towards improving it on several levels including curbing piracy. Meanwhile, do check out the trailer here and let us know what you think of it in the comments section below:

The filmmaker, who is known for his biggies – Rang De Basanti, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag – seems to have opted for a different path this time around going for a low-budgeted film this time around. The film revolves around an 8-year-old Kanhu, living in Mumbai’s slums, who wants to meet the Prime Minister after an ugly incident occurs with his mother. The film is slated to release on March 15.
