We had earlier revealed how Ranveer Singh – Alia Bhatt’s Gully Boy was screened at the Berlin Film Festival and it went on to garner some fantastic reviews. The audience called it Ranveer’s best performance, while praising Zoya Akhtar’s realistic portrayal. Alia’s performance was also called terrific and the rap battles were applauded. But looks like that wasn’t it! The movie was cheered for a lot! In fact, when Ranveer and the team took to the stage at the Berlinale, the atmosphere was charged up. And it’s not us, but TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) director Cameron Bailey who revealed this!

Talking about experiencing the loudest cheer at the Berlinale in 20 plus years, Cameron was clearly surprised. As he mentioned on Twitter, “Watched the GULLY BOY world premiere tonight in a packed house with @RanveerOfficial, @aliaa08 and @ZoyaAkhtarOff present. Biggest cheers I’ve heard in 20+ years at the Berlinale.” We all know the Berlin Film Festival audience is hard to please. Hollywood biggies have even been bashed throughout the years. So achieving this is a huge feat. It’s a proud moment not only for the Gully Boy team, but for Bollywood as well as India. Check out Cameron’s tweet here! And share with us your thoughts in the comments section below!

Gully Boy is directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby Productions. The film is about a poor rapper and his dream of becoming a rapper. How he goes against his family’s wishes, handles life and his relationship forms the rest of the story. With the film releasing on Valentine’s Day (February 14), we can’t wait to see it.
