What do Paapi Pappi, Man-eater, Mard Ko Dard Hoga and Chatri Ke Peche Kya Hai have in common? They’re each representing a different month in this absolutely unique calendar that the makers of the Shakeela biopic have unveiled. With so many releases every month, each filmmaker tries to come up with innovative promotional tools to stand out from the crowd. Actors and actresses are seen hitting television, internet, events and all available spaces where they can spread the word and bring audiences to the cinema halls. Producers of the biopic Shakeela, starring Richa Chaddha came up with something quirky and fun to grab people’s attention for their upcoming release.

The team recently launched a Shakeela 2019 calendar that stars Richa Chadha on fictional movie posters for each month of the year. The not-so-serious calendar is very tongue in cheek to say the least and has caught everyone pleasantly surprised. As a tribute to the pulp inspired 90’s theme look, Richa has been styled in 12 different avatars which resonate with the era in which the real-life actress Shakeela dominated screens in South India.

Speaking about the calendar, Richa said, “The idea of the calendar was to create something that was tongue in cheek and funny. It’s a homage to those pulp films of the 90’s that all of us have seen visuals of, especially posters. These posters have been intricately thought through with the intention of invoking a funny reaction from the audience and bringing a smile to their faces. I hope people get the humour in all of this. It’s a fun concept and the calendar is something that works well for the film given its retro feel.”

Speaking about the film, she continued saying, “When I first heard the story when Indrajit told me about the script I was amazed to know how cinematic her life is. She was an unapologetic person who never apologised for her choices. She empowered herself and did things in a business which was back then a largely male-dominated business.”

Directed by award winning director Indrajit Lankesh, the film is based on the life of the South Indian adult star. Lankesh said, “This calendar is extremely vibrant. Richa and the team have put in great efforts to put this calendar together and it’s extremely colourful and fun. Richa was always my first choice for the film, as it needed a great actor to play the life of Shakeela on screen and I am very happy with the film and I am waiting for the audiences to see it too.” Which of these pictures from the calendar did you like the most?
