Ronnie Screwvala slaps a legal notice on multiplexes and we have all the details

Producer Ronnie Screwvala of RSVP Films has slammed various multiplexes for charging a visual print fee – read more details inside

With technology growing at a rapid speed these days, there are various platforms for producers and filmmakers to showcase their work on, including digital releases. However, releasing a film on the big screen still contributes more to the revenue than any other platform. But the makers have been facing certain issues at the distribution level and producer Ronnie Screwvala has put his foot down against several well-known multiplexes.

Ronnie has sent a legal notice to several multiplexes like PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Carnival Motion Pictures and FICCI Multiplex Association of India. The notice has been sent with regards to an unjust visual print fee being charged by these theatres for showcasing digital posters of films. Through a legal firm, Ronnie has written to the CCI (Competition Commission of India) how the multiplexes are charging makers Rs 20,000 per film, per theatre. While the digital projectors and server are a onetime cost. Ronnie has raised an objection to VPF being charged to only the Indian producers and distributors. A source informs us, “For all Hollywood studio films worldwide no VPF is paid anymore including India, but multiplexes are charging Indian films.”

While many Hollywood production houses have done away with VPF, Ronnie has now taken a step to stop this unjust practice for Indian films. We wonder if he will get support from other producers too. Now we wait to see, how the multiplexes react to the notice and will it affect the publicity for upcoming films under the RSVP banner. Let’s see how things unfold on this front, till then stay tuned to CineBlitz for interesting updates on Bollywood.
