It is indeed a sad day for the industry as veteran acting guru Roshan Taneja has left for heavenly abode. The ‘pioneer of method acting’, who trained scores of Hindi film actors including the likes of Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Jaya Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha, breathed his last yesterday (May 10). His son Rohit Taneja gave the sad news saying, “My father passed away last night (Friday) at 9.30 pm in his sleep at home after a prolonged illness.” He was 87.
This shocked the industry and many took to their social media pages to pay condolences to the family. Shabana Azmi, Rakesh Bedi, Vindu Dara Singh posted messages for their guru. Shabana said, “Late last night came the sad news that @RoshanTaneja passed away. He was my Guru at FTII and the only person whose feet I touched. I was privileged to be trained in Acting by him. My deepest condolences to Didi and the family. RIP Taneja Sir.” National Award-winning filmmaker Atanu Ghosh also shared his grief.

The late Roshan Taneja is survived by his wife Mithika and sons Rohit and Rahul who will fulfil the cremation rituals today. For those of you who don’t know, Roshan Sahab had been training talent since the 1960s. He was first teaching at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune and later at his private school in Mumbai, the Roshan Taneja School of Acting. We at CineBlitz also offer our condolences to the family.
