After Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) and Shootout at Wadala (2013), buzz is that Ekta Kapoor is all set to produce the third installment in the hit franchise. Sources say that for this one, the producer has roped in filmmaker Sanjay Gupta who was involved with the previous two films as well. While Gupta was involved in the Apoorva Lakhia-directed Shootout At Lokhandwala, as its co-producer and co-writer, he had not only co-produced and co-written the John Abraham starrer Shootout At Wadala, but also directed it. Both the films made a mark at the box office, but more so with the movie-goers. And now after two hit cop-gangster action dramas, Gupta is back to the Shootout series and this time he has signed on Saif Ali Khan for the film.
The two films had marked a successful teaming up of Ekta and Gupta as co-producers and them coming together for the third is bound generate much interest in the industry and excitement among the fans of the franchise. Both the earlier films were based on true encounters of dreaded gangsters. While Shootout at Lokhandwala was based on the police encounter of Maya Dolas (Vivek Oberoi) by ATS chief AA Khan (Sanjay Dutt), Shootout at Wadala was based on the police encounter of Manya Surve (John) by Afaaque Baagwan (Anil Kapoor). According to insiders, “The two, Saif and Gupta have been in meetings with Ekta to discuss the film.”
So naturally, it will be interesting to see on which gangster’s encounter killing will the third one be based? Also Saif’s presence is generating a buzz to see if he will play the cop or the criminal in the gangster-inspired biopic series. A source says, “Knowing Ekta and Gupta, all we know is that the film will be mounted on a large scale and boast some of the best action sequences.” Well, what do you think about it?
