Satyajit Ray’s Bengali classic Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne to be screened at 50th edition of IFFI

The fantasy adventure comedy film Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne is based on a story by Ray’s grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury.

Filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s beloved film and Bengali classic Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne that released in 1969 completed its 50 years and will be screened at the 50th edition of IFFI under the Golden Lining Indian Films section. The fantasy adventure comedy film is based on a story by Ray’s grandfather Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury.

This is the first film of the Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne series, followed by a couple of sequels – Hirak Rajar Deshe was released in 1980 and Goopy Bagha Phire Elo, written by Ray but directed by his son Sandip Ray, was released in 1992.

The 50th International Film Festival of India, 2019 will witness over 200 films from 76 countries. With the screening of 26 feature films and 15 non feature films in Indian panorama section, around 10,000 people and film lovers are expected to attend and participate in the golden jubilee edition.The 2019 Golden Jubilee edition of the International Film Festival of India will take place from the 20th to the 28th of November at Panjim, Goa.

Interestingly IFFI, in its 50th year dedicates a section for Films, released in 1969, who turn 50 this year. These include National Award winning Films from all parts of India and bring in its fold, all the Indian Film Industry. The package includes Films in Odiya, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Assamese and Malayalam.
