Shah Rukh Khan will be back on the big screen with a bang in YRF’s Pathaan that will be releasing on January 25th. The film directed by Siddharth Anand is an action extravaganza and also stars John Abraham and Deepika Padukone. In his first interview for Pathaan, Shah Rukh revealed that the film was a dream come true for him. The Bollywood superstar said, “I came to the industry 30 years ago to become an action hero but I missed the boat because they made me a romantic hero instead. I have only wanted to be an action hero. I love DDLJ, and the good, sweet boys Rahul and Raj, but I always thought that I was an action hero. So, it’s my dream come true.”

While talking about his character in the film, the 57-year-old actor said, “Pathaan is an easy guy doing tough things. He’s naughty and tough but doesn’t wear it on his sleeves. He’s trusting, honest, and single-mindedly thinks of India as his mother.”

Pathaan is Khan’s first big release in four years after the dismal show of Aanand L Rai’s Zero where the actor played a dwarf. About choosing to do Pathaan, Khan said, “To surprise as an actor you have to completely give yourself into the hands of a capable director. And nobody knows this genre of films better than Siddharth Anand. So, there’s not much to question. I just love the world that Siddharth makes.”

Shah Rukh also heaped praises on his co-stars in the film John Abraham and Deepika Padukone. Talking about his equation with John, SRK said, “I have known John since I came to Mumbai. He was one of the first acquaintances who became a friend. I was keen that he does this film. He was kind enough to accept a role where he is really a bad guy. It takes a lot of guts and confidence in yourself, especially in the Hindi film scenario where heroes don’t play bad guys. I genuinely hope that when Pathaan comes out, the most liked character in the film is John’s.”

About Deepika, SRK said, “You need someone of the stature of Deepika to be able to pull off a song sequence such as Besharam Rang and then do an action where she takes a guy right over her and beats him and you believe it. I think she looks tougher than me in the action scenes. So, that kind of combination could be achieved only with Deepika. There’s also a vulnerable side to her character.”

After Pathaan, SRK has two big releases in 2023. Jawan, directed by Atlee will release in June whereas Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki will release later this year.
