Shilpa Shetty Kundra has always been an industry darling. With films like Baazigar and Dus, among others, the actress earned her fan-base and industry goodwill. But while, everyone is aware of her super-successful innings, not many know that there was a time when her career wasn’t at much of a high even after giving many hits. This, the actress revealed recently while speaking to Humans of Bombay.

Shilpa reveals that she was thrown out of the film for no reason and it wasn’t easy for her. “I remember there were producers, who without any reason threw me out of their films. The universe wasn’t in my favour, but I had to keep trying no matter what. It was at that time that I decided to reinvent and entered Big Brother. It was a chance to do something unique. But it ended up leaving a huge impact! I was publicly bullied and discriminated against just because of the country I belonged to. It wasn’t easy – I was all by myself in that house!” said Shilpa.

“I was this dark, tall & lanky child who had her life pretty much laid out for her. I’d graduate & work with my dad. Even though in my heart I wanted to do something different, something bigger & better, I never felt like I could.. But when I participated in a fashion show, just for fun, I met a photographer who wanted to click my photos. For me it was a great opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. To my complete surprise, the photographs came out really well! That opened the doors of modelling for me. Soon, I got offered my first film! There was no looking back from there, I was going onwards & upwards. But nothing worth having comes easy. I was all of 17 when I entered the industry, I hadn’t seen the world or even understood life. With all the success came scrutiny. I wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t know how to speak Hindi, I shuddered at the thought of being in front of the camera. I reached a point where after a few films my career hit a lull. I tried hard but it always felt like I was lagging behind. It’s not easy to be celebrated one moment & ignored the next. I remember there were producers, who without any reason, threw me out of their films. The universe wasn’t in my favour, but I had to keep trying no matter what. It was at that time that I decided to reinvent & entered Big Brother. It was a chance to do something unique. But it ended up leaving a huge impact! I was publicly bullied & discriminated against just because of the country I belonged to. It wasn’t easy – I was all by myself in that house! But I kept me going – I couldn’t give up, not after reaching this far. When I won, people kept telling me, ‘You’ve made us proud.’ That’s when I knew that all of that struggle & persistence was worth it. I had stood up not just for myself, but for all of those who had faced racism. My life has been filled with ups & downs. I went from being the shy girl to someone who was front & center on the silver screen. There were terrible times, but there have also been some great accomplishments. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it! It’s made me who I am today – a strong independent woman, a proud actor, a wife & a mother. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Alaya F doesn’t let let anything get in the way of her work

The actress has recently bagged fresh face award for her film Jawaani Jaaneman

Published at

Hailed as the ‘girl of the moment’ right after her debut in Jawaani Jaaneman, actress Alaya F made headlines for delivering a phenomenal performance on the silver screen. The actress nailed her unconventional character and is still considered one of the most impactful debutants. Being the learner that she is, Alaya is leaving no stone unturned being a force by herself as she continues to work from home.

From styling her own shoots and having taken it up even though it is not her niche, virtually taking dance classes to better her craft, watching documentaries to understand nuances of different characters and even, creating her own digital series- Alaya is doubling up and making sure that nothing hinders with her commitments during the lockdown, with her hardwork and dedication.

Talking about the same, Alaya F shares, “I had certain work commitments to fulfill even while on lockdown. As actors, our nature of work requires us to be in front of camera and usually we have a whole team of professionals to make us look our best. But due to the lockdown and the safety guidelines that were put in place, it became difficult to have a team so I had to get creative and do my own hair and make up and even styling for shoots! I even did a cover shoot by myself at home!”.

She further adds, “On social media I have to stay active and I also have brand commitments so for everything on my social media, not only hair and make up and styling is done by me, but also the creating video concepts, shooting them and editing them.. it’s all done by me! Everything now takes 5 times the work it would have taken but it’s been a great learning curve! It’s given me the chance to experiment and go out of my comfort zone in a lot of ways! It also always kept me occupied and busy and overall I must say, it’s been a lot of fun!”

Alaya has been on a roll after a promising debut, with back to back magazine covers, working on herself constantly and the actress recently bagged the award for the Fresh Face new comer for her debut performance in Jaaawani Jaaneman.
