The Mumbai underworld and  its many notorious gangsters have been some of the most favourite topics for filmmakers in Bollywood. But not many have cracked the code to make a hit one. Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta is one who frequently
focuses his lens on gangsters and his movies have a strong fanbase. Sanjay Gupta today completes 25 years in the industry. 25 years back he began his career with Aatish and went on to make many hit films after that. Not just for his direction, but the filmmaker was also known for making heroes look great and create a trend with their stylized presentation. Let’s go back a little and have a look at five films made by Sanjay Gupta that were applauded by the audience.

Aatish : Feel the fire

He was in his twenties when he made his debut with Aatish. Starring Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Pancholi the film was known for the newness of its theme and the fantastic charisma that Sanjay exuded in it. Making the camaraderie between the two leads a highlight, the film managed to make its place amongst the audience. The revenge drama is also remembered because Sanju Baba got arrested during the making of the film!

This 2002 film had a complete ensemble including Sanjay Dutt, Amitabh Bachchan, Suniel Shetty, Mahesh Manjrekar, Kumar Gaurav and Lucky Ali. Bringing all under one roof, Sanjay made an action-drama that got a thumbs up from the audience. The film was an adaptation of Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs.

Sanjay Dutt seemed to be a constant in Gupta’s films. The longtime collaborators alongside John Abraham, Lara Dutta and Celina Jaitly made a revenge drama that was a decent one which also gave John’s career a boost. Based on the South Korean film Oldboy, Zinda was directed as well as written by Sanjay.

Shootout at Wadala

Sanjay Gupta with Shootout at Wadala claimed his niche all over again. The film that starred John and Kagana Ranaut was based on a chapter from the book Dongri To Dubai and followed the life of the infamous gangster Manya Surve. John as Manya Surve is still recalled and applauded. The film was a prequel to the 2007 hit Shootout at Lokhandwala which was written by Sanjay.

One of the most successful films of his career, Sanjay Gupta’s last outing Kaabil released in 2017. The film recently released in China too and had a decent run there. Kaabil is a revenge drama that stars Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam in lead roles.

Sanjay Gupta recently revealed the first look of his forthcoming movie that will go on the floors in July and we are amazed by John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi’s presentation in it. We wish the director a longer run at films! For more updates and gossip, stay tuned to CineBlitz.
