In the recent drug bust in a luxury cruise ship, Aryan Khan, son of Shah Rukh Khan, and a few others were taken into custody by the Narcotics Control Bureau. Since then, SRK fans and many of his colleagues in the Hindi film industry have extended support to the 23-year-old, and are hoping the truth will come out and justice will be served. There are also others who have voiced against Aryan. Somy Ali, former Bollywood actor, who now runs her own NGO, No More Tears, finds the entire thing “laughable”.

“It feels like the judicial system is going after a famous kid to prove to the public how ethical they are and don’t discriminate because he is a celebrity’s son. Majority of the children have tried drugs universally. It’s not breaking news for a teenager or a twenty something to experiment with drugs. This is literally going after him because of who his parents are and using him as a scapegoat for their lack of efficiency such as protecting women from being brutally raped and murdered,” says Somy.

She also took to social media to express her thoughts. “Drugs, similar to prostitution, will never go away which is why both should be decriminalized. This is the epitome of a kid being a kid scenario. No one is a damn saint. I tried pot when I was 15 and then again with Divya Bharti during the shooting of Andolan. No regrets!” read a part of her Instagram post.

Somy extends her prayers and best wishes to Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. “I do hope real justice is served with the utmost immediacy. I am so sorry they have to go through this solely due to their celebrity status and I feel awful for Aryan. Hang in there kiddo, just know it’s temporary and this is not your fault,” she adds.
