Sooraj Barjatya’s father Raj Kumar Barjatya passes away

Rajshri Productions’ chairman and veteran film producer Raj Kumar Barjatya passed away today morning (January 21). Father of popular filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, Raj Kumar has produced several Bollywood hits like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon, Vivah and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. From what we hear, he was fine till a couple of days back, but he passed away after reportedly suffering a sudden massive cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, but the producer couldn’t be saved. He passed away leaving behind a huge legacy of films.

Several people across the country are mourning his death. IFTDA (Indian Film & TV Directors’ Association) President Ashoke Pandit tweeted and said, “Shocked and saddened to learn of Rajkumar Barjatya ji’s demise. Raj Babu – as he was fondly known -Heartfelt condolences to @SoorajBarjatya ji & the entire Barjatya family and #Rajshri parivaar.” Trade analyst Komal Nahta also mentioned on Twitter, “Terribly shocking news. Shri Raj Kumar Barjatya passed away some minutes back at Reliance Hurkissondas Hospital. Can’t believe this. Met him just a week back at his Prabhadevi office. He spent so much time with me and my family. He looked perfectly alright then. And now, he’s gone!”

For those of you who don’t know, Raj Kumar Barjatya’s father Tarachand Barjatya had started Rajshri Productions. In fact, Raj produced a lot of shows during the 1960s till the 1980s. He then went on to pass the onus to his son, Sooraj Barjatya who has delivered several hits in Bollywood, last being Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015).
