While OTT has given a great option for people to skip going to the theatres and watch a film at home, actress Sudha Chandran says that the big screen provides an absolutely different experience. “The last Bollywood films that I saw in the theatre were Gangubai Kathiawadi and The Kashmir Files. I remember after watching The Kashmir Files. I came out and called up Anupam Kher. I said, ‘Sir, it’s a great film. I can’t even express in words how much I liked it.’ I come from the film industry but that film has left such a big impact on me. I think that is what good films are all about. Also, watching in the theatre is a different experience. In our house, there are so many disturbances, someone is coming or someone is going. When you are in theatre, your focus is only and only on watching a good film. Those two and a half hours are precious and valuable time that you give to that filmmaker who has made a very good film,” she says.
Ask her which Bollywood film she saw last in the theatre, and she says, “Gangubai Kathiawadi is a great movie. I think from the first frame to the last frame, it’s absolutely amazing. I always go back to theatres to watch Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir’s films. On my first visit, I couldn’t see the whole film. For films such as Devdas, Ramleela, Gangubai Kathiawadi, I always go back to the theatre because I like to not miss out on anything. His films are like paintings with emotion. I try to capture every frame.”
