Pullela Gopichand’s biopic was announced in a grand fashion nearly two years ago. Fox Star Studios and Abundantia Entertainment had announced that they are making the biopic on the life of the former badminton player and current Chief National Coach of the Indian Badminton. Sudheer Babu was also roped in and filming was supposed to begin by mid-2018. The shoot was then postponed to 2019. However, the film has not gone on floors yet! Reports are doing the round that the film might be shelved. But, we can confirm that this is not true. In fact, Sudheer Babu’s Gopichand biopic has been delayed once again as the film is still in the scripting stage!

As a source close to the development reveals to us exclusively, “Sudheer Babu will be playing Pullela Gopichand in the badminton star’s biopic. He is a former professional badminton player and hence, he’s perfect for the part. The movie will be directed by Praveen Sattaru. Initially, it was supposed to take off in 2018. But with the makers wanting to present it in the best way possible, they’ve postponed it twice now. Sudheer Babu, on the other hand, is continuing his prep work. With so many incidents, moments and achievements to be captured, the scripting is taking a long time. The movie is still in the scripting and pre-production phase and it should take off by the end of the year.”

Reports suggest the Gopichand biopic will be made in two parts, as there are several things to be covered and one part might not be able to do justice. It will be released in Hindi and Telugu, with makers thinking to release dubbed Tamil and Malayalam versions too. In fact, the makers are already looking for a 2020 release with the Tokyo Olympics also taking place during the same year. So we might see a Saina Nehwal and Gopichand biopic in the same year, ain’t that cool? Anyway, what do you guys have to say about this development?
