Sunny Deol appoints representative for Gurdaspur; opposition calls it betrayal

Actor-Politician Sunny Deol had won the BJP seat from the Gurdaspur constituency during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. However, looks like he’s not having a smooth run there. The opposition has been raising questions since the actor has appointed a representative there on his behalf. It is unclear if an MP can appoint a representative to handle his day-to-day duties. The matter is likely to be discussed further in the Lok Sabha.

Sunny Deol on Monday (July 1) appointed Gurpreet Singh Palheri of Palheri village in Mohali district as his representative to take care of the routine work in his absence. Deol issued a declaration on his letter-head in which he has given Palheri authority to be his representative. He can attend meetings and follow important matters pertaining to his (Sunny Deol’s) parliamentary constituency, Gurdaspur (Punjab), with concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders have called this betrayal to his constituency and the people who voted for him. Punjab cabinet minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said, “Sunny Deol has betrayed voters of Gurdaspur constituency by appointing a representative. How can an MP appoint his representative? Voters have elected Sunny Deol as MP, not his representative.”
