It was last week when filmmaker Sandeep Singh, producer Amit B Wadhwani & director Mahesh Manjrekar announced their upcoming project, a biopic based on the life of the freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Sawarkar titled SwatantraVeer Savarkar.
Ever since the announcement, the audience is eagerly waiting for the makers to finalize their lead hero. As per current speculations, the makers are preparing to approach superstars Ayushmann Khurana, Randeep Hooda or Rajkummar Rao to essay the heroic character.

Addressing the speculations, a trade analyst shared that the makers need to get a versatile actor on board who could do justice to the biopic. They further added, “Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao and Randeep Hooda are some of the most talented actors of our generation. All three of them are known for their dedication to the movie projects they work in, which makes them the perfect choice for the role. While Hooda lost 20 kgs for ‘Sarbjit’ in 18 days, Rao showcased great physical transformations for his movies ‘Trapped’ and ‘Badhaai Do’. Ayushmann too has proved his mettle by learning appropriate accents and dialects for his movies. It will be interesting to see who the makers finalize as their lead.”
Veer Savarkar played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle and was also a member of the Hindu Mahasabha. Fifty-five years after his death he continues to evoke strong reactions from both sides of the political spectrum. To be shot across London, the Andamans and Maharashtra, SwatantraVeer Savarkar promises to change the narrative of the Indian freedom struggle and history.
