On Kargil Vijay Diwas today we take a look at five Bollywood films that have been set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pak War of 1999
The bravery and the courage of our soldiers in the Kargil War 1999, between India and Pakistan, will be forever etched in our hearts. Time and again, Bollywood too has celebrated the spirit of our brave soldiers in their films. While some depict the war, some reflect the effects the war had had on lakhs of lives. Here are five such films that highlight the bravery and sacrifices of our courageous soldiers:
One of the most remarkable movies based on the Indo-Pak War, the film was released in 2003 and still touches the hearts of the audience. Written and directed by veteran filmmaker JP Dutta, it starred actors like Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty and Abhishek Bachchan all playing important roles as defence personnel and soldiers. This one was a heartfelt tribute to our jawans and the sacrifices they and their families make for their motherland and is bound to leave you teary-eyed.
Starring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, Lakshya was set against the backdrop of the Kargil War. It traces the journey of a young college student realizing his true calling in life as a soldier. This will definitely leave you inspired.
Another Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn-starrer, Tango Charlie, written and directed by Mani Shankar, the movie inspired by the Kargil War will leave you highly motivated.
Om Puri and Gul Panag-starrer Dhoop takes a hard look at the effects of war on its citizens and shows a soldier’s family struggling to cope with his death post the war. Inspired by true events from Captain Anuj Nayyar’s life, who was martyred during the war, the movie will win your hearts.
A romantic drama, it has Shahid Kapoor playing an Indian Air Force officer at the time of the Kargil War. It also stars Sonam Kapoor.

1) Hrithik Roshan- Around last year he posted an inspirational video on Facebook on the topic of fear. He starts with, Dar (Fear). Dar se mat dar (Do not be afraid of fear). Dar se mat dar. Kuch alag kar (Do something different). Che unglio wala Kabhi kalakar nahi ban payega, dar tujhe ye samjhayega (A person with six fingers will never sum up to anything. That fear will try to tell you). Par tu aatmavishwas dikhayega (You’ll show confidence). Tu dar se aakh milayega (You will face your fear). Dar se mat dar kuch alag kar. Dar ka saamna kar. Aage badd (Move ahead)…” Check out his entire post below:
