One tweet can prove to be very heavy when you are a famous celebrity. Every comment a celeb makes is scanned by the social media buffs, and one wrong comment can land you in great trouble. That’s what happened when Vivek Oberoi posted a meme which made fun of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, making a pun on the current political situation in India.

This garnered a great deal of backlash for the actor. It started with Twitter users raging against his audacity to post something of this sort, to Maharashtra Women Commission sending a show-cause notice to the actor, to actors like Sonam K Ahuja reacting to it and voicing their disgust at his behaviour. And now, it was the turn for  Vivek’s reply!

He finally spoke about the incident and interacted with the media and reportedly said, “I don’t know why people are making a huge issue out of it. Someone had sent me a meme which made fun of me. I laughed on it and I appreciated the person for his creativity. If someone mocks at you, you should not take it seriously.”

On being asked about the notice, he said, “I’m waiting for National Commission for Women, State Commission for Women. I’d like to meet them, I’ll also like to explain myself because I don’t think I have done anything wrong.”

Talking about the backlash received from Sonam, the actor said, “Aap apni filmon mein thoda kam overact karein aur social media pe thoda kam overreact karein. I’ve been working in women empowerment for 10 yrs now. I don’t think this is hurting anyone’s sentiments”
