The New Year’s good times for Bollywood began from the first month itself, with URI:The Surgical Strike releasing in the second week, and going on to earn the numbers that it has. It was the best start the year could have. January 18, which is this Friday, is going to be a melting pot for releases and the first week with the maximum releases of this year so far.
This Friday, there are six films releasing together. Namely, Why Cheat India, The Lift Boy, Fraud Saiyaan, Bombairiya, Rangeela Raja, and 72 Hours. Starring Emraan Hashmi and also produced by him, Why Cheat India is a take on our education system and also the cheating that takes place at various levels in exams. The film which was initially supposed to release on January 25 was pulled back to January 18. Fraud Saiyaan is an Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla starrer, a story about a con who marries different women and lives off their money. Bombairiya is a dark comedy starring Radhika Apte in the lead along with a huge ensemble cast. Debut director Jonathan Augustin‘s slice-of-life film The Lift Boy talks about a coming of age story. 72 Hours is a war-drama and Rangeela Raja is a comedy film with Govinda in the lead. Yes the platter is packed to capacity with so many films, but the quality is at risk. Judging and picking out from the trailers, we can’t honestly bid for many out of these, so individual numbers may initially be affected.
With these six releases this week, it is going to be fun to see the reviews and see who comes out as the winner. The major clash is of course, between Why Cheat India and Fraud Saiyaan, but the competition is between all of them. What we are most excited about is the clash awaited in the next week, which is January 25, when Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Thackeray will release together. The year 2019 has already begin with clashes, hits and lots of films releasing together, let’s see what the year has in store ahead.
