We revealed to you earlier this morning how the makers of Cheat India had to change their movie title to Why Cheat India just a week before release, after the Censor Board raised an objection. While it came as a shock to one and all, looks like the makers did not readily agree with the changes. In fact, they put across their points, but the CBFC did not budge. They were extremely helpless and hence, had to change the title to Why Cheat India at the last moment. Not only helpless, the makers are extremely unhappy about what happened!

In a joint press statement by T-Series Films, Ellipsis Entertainment, Emraan Hashmi Films, the Why Cheat India team revealed, “The CBFC had concerns about the title Cheat India. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer and television promos had already been certified with the original title. This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, Why Cheat India.”

Atul Kasbekar of Ellipsis Entertainment further posted an Instagram post with a caption that read: “After the teaser and the trailer released with the title #CheatIndiawe now are called #WhyCheatIndia. Don’t ask WHY. But it’s WHY. Sigh. #whycheatindia #cheatindia.” What do you guys have to say about this whole scenario? Share with us your thoughts in the comments section below!
