Star Rating:

It’s been exactly a year’s wait since Avengers: Infinity War left us with one of the most shocking climax ever in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Not to mention an infinite curiosity to know what and most importantly how things will play out in the next and the final installment of the blockbuster franchise. Thanos with his snap after procuring the six infinity stones had not just wiped out half the population of the world, but he had also managed to wipe out all the smiles from the face of every true-blue MCU fan, leaving them speechless, as they exited theatres. Needless to say, it is futile to even try to explain how much Avengers: Endgame is being looked forward to across the globe! Of course, Joe Russo telling us that it’s the last installment in the franchise makes it all the more important. But has it been worth the wait and the excitement? Well, read on to find out

What Avengers: Endgame is all about: Taking off from where Avengers: Infinity War had left, Avengers: Endgame begins with showing the characters left behind post Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snap. A highly dispirited and frail looking Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) is in a spaceship with Nebula (Karen Gillan), adrift in space with a near zero per cent chance of survival as they are soon running out of food, water, and oxygen. HawkEye (Jeremy Renner) is bewildered to find his family suddenly missing.

Five years on, the population left behind is trying to come to terms with the catastrophe that struck Earth and deal with their loved ones gone. The remaining Avengers – Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), Rhodey (Don Cheadle), Rocket, and Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) – too are still not only struggling to cope with grief and irreparable loss, but also deal with their utter sense of failure and helplessness after their defeat as they were unable to save even the other Avengers. One of the worst hit is Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who retires to New Asgard, while Hulk aka Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) finds a way to make peace between his two personalities that now co-exist in harmony. Captain Marvel aka Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) is the new addition to the team that is now being tracked by Natasha.

However, a freak incident sees Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) return from the quantum realm where he was stuck. His return triggers hope that there may be a way to reverse all that happened and bring back their vanquished loved ones. And the Avengers set out to do ‘whatever it takes’ to give that one chance a try. By now, it’s easy to realise that most of the trailer was very smartly crafted around the first 20 minutes of the film. And trust us when we say that the trailer just doesn’t prepare you enough to be ready for what lies ahead.

Yay: The film is a befitting finale and a spectacular culmination of the 20 plus MCU films all leading to this epic showdown. Avengers: Endgame outshines its predecessors in cinematic brilliance on several counts. A brilliantly-made film, it has been crafted to tug the hearts and the funny bone of every Marvel fan out there. The film attempts to tie up loose ends and brings together all the stories really well, binding them into this amazing film. Through some highly emotional moments, many of the relationships are given satisfying closures. The climax showdown is epic!

While the previous Avengers’ was all about these characters acing their superhero powers and trying to take on Thanos, this one here emphasises more on the importance of friends and family in each superhero’s life and is more about sacrifice than just heroism.

However, inspite of the grim goings-on, there is an intricate balance maintained right through between the sense of loss and the subtle impressive humour that’s almost a trademark of Marvel movies. The entire reference to time-travel movies is hilarious. The film is highly entertaining and there are rarely moments when you are not tempted to laugh or cheer out aloud.

All in all, the makers have made the wait of the fans totally worth it. The film showcases more than 30 central characters and the film does justice to each one of them. Take a bow there Anthony and Joe Russo. The film almost pays homage of sorts in several parts as it revisits some of the best scenes of the previous installments, getting us nostalgic and excited about the bonus mini treats.

The performances are stunning and the chemistry between the characters simply superb. The film also undoubtedly excels remarkably in all the technical departments. From the sound to the costumes, to the mind-blowing special effects, it is all just a fantastic visual treat. The film’s got enough twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seats and enough action that’ll satiate your hunger for a charged high-octane action thriller. Even if we were to look at the film independently, it would merit a watch for sure for its story telling technique and superb dialogues that hit home in each scene.

Nay: The film has several loops for the fans to punch in enough logic-theories. But us saying anything would take us in the *spoiler alert* zone. The action feels a little too chaotic in the final showdown scenes. Inspite of some really good action sequences, the momentum in some scenes is too fast for the audience to really be able to enjoy the action per se. If you have not seen some of the previous MCU movies like – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, Thor Ragnarok, or Avengers: Infinity War in particular – then you may struggle to understand what’s happening and miss the punch-lines. But well, you can’t blame the filmmakers here, now can you!

CineBlitz Verdict: To say that Avengers: Endgame is a must-watch is an understatement. The worthy conclusive installment of one of the greatest cinematic presentations, it will definitely make its way into the hearts of MCU fans, for whom it is more than just a film. Avengers: Endgame is everything the fans were hoping it would be and more. It’s an amazing journey come to a beautiful end. Although to be honest, we feel that the film still provides some scope for more installments to follow. Anyway, don’t miss this one!
