Padma Awards: Mohanlal, Prabhudeva, Shankar Mahadevan receive the prestigious honour – view pics

The Padma awards which were announced a few days ago were felicitated today. 47 out of the 112 awardees were honoured by the honourable President of India at an event. Three biggies from the film industry were given their awards and here are all the details you need to know.

Today, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, President of India Ram Nath Kovind conferred the titles upon three film industry biggies who have contributed to the Indian cinema immensely. The three names include south superstar Mohanlal who received the Padma Bhushan for his contribution in terms of acting in Indian cinema. The star has been working for a very long time and deserved the title. Prabhu Deva received Padma Shri for his contribution to art, dance and cinema. The ace choreographer has been in the industry teaching dance to all the biggies. Shankar Mahadevan received Padma Shri for the legacy of music that the composer-singer has created.

Padma titles are awarded to individuals doing great work in their respective fields. The Padma Awards are divided into three categories, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. These are the highest civilian awards after Bharat Ratna. Manoj Bajpayee who was also announced as the winner couldn’t make it to the event. Late Kader Khan was also honoured with the Padma Shri award. The remaining awards are likely to be conferred at another function which will be held later this month.
