The Akshay Kumar-starrer Kesari will be released on the day of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, which is January 13, as the story is based on the battle of Saragarhi. It looks like the makers of the film have chosen the right date to release the trailer, for the day has huge significance for the Sikh community. The film Kesari is an Indian war-based drama, starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles, and is directed by Anurag Singh. It tells the story of Havildar Ishar Singh who was the part of the battle. The story is close to the people of India and closer to the Sikh community who fought the battle.

The Battle of Saragarhi was fought before the Tirah Campaign on 12 September 1897, between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. The Sikhs, led by Havildar Ishar Singh, chose to fight to death, in what is considered by some military historians as one of history’s greatest last-stands. After the wrap of the shoot, Akshay Kumar tweeted, ‘And it’s a wrap for #Kesari…a film which swells up my chest with immense pride. See you in cinemas on 21st March, 2019.’

Akshay Kumar was last seen in the film 2.0,  before which he played superhero to the masses in the film Padman. The film Kesari is slated to release in March, 2019.  It will be interesting to see Akshay Kumar doing this film based on the history of North India.
